The 1st International Workshop on the Positive Use of Technology and Science (PUTS-14)

The PUTS-14 workshop is an annual workshop for researchers in technology and science that will be held in Banjul, The Gambia.  PUTS-14 seeks papers on positive uses of technology and science within the Sub-Saharan African region.

Location: The University of The Gambia.

Introduction

This handbook of research will explore multiple aspects of cyber terrorism and cyber crime in today's society. This book provides insights on the negatives uses of technology with comprehensive review of the associated vulnerabilities and mitigations. Researchers, practitioners, and professionals will benefits from this publication’s broad perspective.

Objective

This proposed publication takes an entirely different route in describing digital crime and cyber terrorism. This publication has the potential to aid organizations everywhere to effectively defend their systems.

Target Audience

The handbook of research is expected to get a large amount of attention in the cyber security realm. This will cover all emerging negative uses of technologies which will allow individuals to gain insight so they can better defend these new attacks. This can be used by training organization, intelligence community, and others responsible for network defense.

Submission Procedure

Researchers are invited to submit on or before February 15, 2014, a 2-3 page chapter proposal clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors of accepted proposals will be notified March 31, 2014 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines. Authors of accepted proposals will be sent guidelines to prepare the full chapter (7,000 – 11,000 words length). Full chapters are expected to be submitted by June 15, 2014. All submitted chapter will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as a reviewer for this project.

Publisher

This handbook of research is scheduled to be published by IGI Global (formerly Idea Group Inc.), publisher of the “Information Science Reference” (formerly Idea Group Reference), “Medical Information Science Reference”, “Business Science Reference”, and “Engineering Science Reference” imprints. A Carefully Selected List of Recommended Tools

When I meet with people and talk about our work, I get asked a lot what technology we use to create interactive and dynamic data visualizations. At Interactive Things, we have a set of preferred libraries, applications and services that we use regularly in our work. We will select the most fitting tool for the job depending on the requirements of the project. Sometimes a really simple tool is all you need to create something meaningful. On other occasions, a more multifaceted repertoire is needed. But how does one choose the right thing to use? An endless list of every tool available, does not answer that question and a recommendation from a friend is oftentimes more valuable.

That’s why we have put together a selection of tools that we use the most and that we enjoy working with. We called it selection.datavisualization.ch. It includes libraries for plotting data on maps, frameworks for creating charts, graphs and diagrams and tools to simplify the handling of data. Even if you’re not into programming, you’ll find applications that can be used without writing one single line of code. We will keep this list as a living repository and add / remove things as technology develops. We hope this will help you find the best tool for your next job.

6th International Technology, Education and Development Conference (INTED) 2012-Abstract Acceptance

Today I finally received an acceptance letter for one of two abstracts submitted to the 6th International Technology, Education and Development Conference (INTED) 2012 in Valencia, Spain.  One paper was rejected however that paper shall be rewritten and submitted to an engineering conference.  I'm just excited as I hope this brings me closer to my path to tenure at Alabama A&M University.    See conference at INTED 2012
