MBA Decision

Recently I have been pondering about a Master of Business Administration (MBA).   I have decided to transfer what hours I can and complete a MBA with Colorado Technical University.  I have only five classes to complete the MBA degree by December 2010.

My goal has always been to be a Chief Information Officer (CIO) at an organization.  Having a terminal degree in Computer Science-Enterprise Information Systems does not show that I have the broad skillset for managing an organization.  Thus I am completing this degree while I am young (27 yrs old) and have the time available.  This quote below was taken from the Manhattan Review:

"Today most business people in management positions have MBAs. While it is possible to achieve success in the business world without an MBA, not having a degree from a top business school can be a severe handicap because so many people continue their education and training. Both the quantitative and qualitative skills taught in MBA programs are qualities that are in high demand in the real business world. If you decide not to pursue an MBA, it is possible that you are making a decision that will hinder your future success in the corporate world."
However in today's market a MBA is not worth what it was in areas such as Wall Street before the economic crash.  But in Defense & Aerospace it will strengthen my background and prep me for my next steps.

Great video on the SDLC and why software assurance is important.

(ISC)2 Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional (CSSLP)

(ISC)2 has a new certification titled Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional (CSSLP) which covers the following domains below:
  • Secure Software Concepts - security implications in software development
  • Secure Software Requirements - capturing security requirements in the requirements gathering phase
  • Secure Software Design - translating security requirements into application design elements
  • Secure Software Implementation/Coding - unit testing for security functionality and resiliency to attack, and developing secure code and exploit mitigation
  • Secure Software Testing - integrated QA testing for security functionality and resiliency to attack
  • Software Acceptance - security implication in the software acceptance phase
  • Software Deployment, Operations, Maintenance and Disposal - security issues around steady state operations and management of software
Currently the CSSLP is not on the DoD 8570 list of approved IA certifications but the plan is to be on the list.  The CSSLP is the first (ISC)2 certification that can be taken at a computer in an approved testing center.

March 2010 Intellectbase International Consortium Academic Conference

During March 2010 I presented at the Intellectbase International Consortium Academic Conference in Houston, TX.  The paper is titled IT Project Management Best Practices in a Expending Market.
ABRSTRACT: This article examines emerging trends in the profession of IT Project Management in a global economy. Within the last decade project management theories and concept have become accepted standards in many organizational industries. The increasingly important role of information technology is undoubtedly the effect of rapid globalization that requires companies to have a larger capacity, timelier and more accurate information management within their decision making system. The IT project management “body of knowledge” has advanced greatly through the collaborative work of project management practitioners, trade associations, training institutions and universities. The expansion and innovation to this “body of knowledge” seems to be contributed by the growing practice of open sourcing by practitioners and educators alike through social network sites, blogs and other media sharing outlets. The future of IT project management may become more of an external operation with more organizations outsourcing their IT program and portfolio departments. This article should provide the framework necessary to further understand the relevance of IT Project Management in the global market and where it is headed.
